Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics, Amalfi (May/June)
Every year in springtime, Amalfi celebrates her glorious past as a Maritime Republic with an Historical Regatta, including perfectly recreated period costumes and long boats each with eight oarsman, representing the four ancient Maritime Republics: Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa and Venice.
Procession of St Antonio (June 13th)
St. Antonio is the Patron Saint of Anacapri, celebrated every June 13th. A week before the ceremony, the Church of Santa Sofia and the historic center of Anacapri are decorated with colored lights and drapes. The day of the celebrations the statue of the Saint is carried through the streets of the center and at its passing, from the balconies, the faithful throw rose petals and broom flower, the flower of Saint Antonio. The small, narrow lanes are lined with stalls selling children's toys, candy and household goods. In the evening, a concert is held in Piazza Diaz.
The St. Andrew Race (June 27)
Every June 27, is dedicated to Amalfi's protector of seamen. This is a joyous religious celebration commemorating the defeat of Barbarossa and the Moslem fleet in 1544. A procession of white-robed men carry a silver-gilt replica of the saint to the harbor, and fishermen at the beach run it back to the cathedral and - straight up its 62 steps. Later, the statue gleams in the sunshine of the piazza as fishermen hang wooden and gilt fish amulets from the saint's left wrist as tokens of gratitude.
The Summer Sunset Concert Series (June-August)
Takes place on Capri every year from June through August. Sponsored by the Axel Munthe Villa San Michele the series features classical music, operas and operatas.
Sorrento Summer of Music, Sorrento (July-September)
The "Sorrento Summer of Music" Festival takes place every year in the cloisters of the monastery of Saint Francis in Sorrento, and its honorary President is the famous cellist Uto Ughi. Against the attractive backdrop of the Saint Francis cloisters, great names from the international music scene perform alongside emerging talent throughout the summer. Plenty of classical music and chamber music, but also jazz and other genres
Settembrata Anacaprese (Sept 1 - 15)
The Settembrata Anacaprese, organized each year by Anacapri town council, is a competition held between the four ancient quarters of the town: Le Boffe, La Porta, Le Stalle and La Pietra. The challenge puts the organizational, artistic, culinary, and tailoring skills of the inhabitants of Anacapri to the test, a test which the local people face with great passion, guaranteeing a fabulous show, whether or not their quarter wins. Lively and colorful, the Settembrata Anacaprese offers tourists and islanders alike an authentic slice of local folklore. A different theme is chosen each year, which the four districts then develop according to their individual creativity. Events include a procession of allegorical floats, gastronomic evenings, sporting competitions and flee markets; everybody gets involved, with the owners of shops and private houses competing for the prize for the best dressed window or for the most ornate balcony.
