Important Travel Information
for St. Barts Vacations

Passports & Immigration
WIMCO recommends that U.S. citizens ALWAYS travel with a valid passport whenever traveling outside of the continental US. While many of our destinations may only require a birth certificate and a valid driver's license at this time, immigration requirements may change without any notice. For ALL other non-US citizens, please check with the embassy of the country/island to which you are traveling (French, British, Italian) to see if you need a special visa. (Note: If one of a honeymooning couple is a US Citizen and the other is not, a visa is still required by the non-US citizen). When bringing a nanny or babysitter, please be sure that they too have appropriate documentation. Complete country details PDF document

Arrival
It is incumbent upon you to notify WIMCO of your complete flight/transportation itinerary so that you can be met at the airport (or harbor). If you are arriving by boat, please provide WIMCO/Sibarth with any and all information you have. If your flight/transportation is delayed, please contact WIMCO or Sibarth so that we can make arrangements to meet you upon arrival.

Traveling by Boat from St Martin to St Barts
Taking a ferry from St Martin to St Barts is an alternative to taking one of the commuter planes. Boats can leave St Martin later in the day than planes can – which is a real plus if your flight is delayed and you miss your connection into St Barts.

Check-in
Upon airport arrival and following immigration, you must check in at the Sibarth counter located at the end of the car rental booth corridor to pick up your check-in material and be escorted to your villa. Returning clients should also check in so our arrival staff is aware that you have arrived and that you have picked up your check-in envelope. Check-in time for both villas and cars is after 3 p.m.

Departure
Villa check-out time is before NOON. We ask your cooperation in leaving on time since your maid may have very little time to prepare for the arrival of the next guests. Failure to check out by noon will result in a fee of one additional night.

St. Barts Car Rentals
We recommend that you rent a car on St. Barths as it is difficult to get around without one. Various types of jeeps and enclosed sedans are available. The rate is approximately $65 - 85 per day. Due to limited supply, we suggest you let us know your preference as far in advance as possible. During the high season, we can only reserve, not guarantee, car type.

Clothing
St. Barths is a very relaxing holiday island and apart from not entering shops in bathing suits, dress is casual. Even in the nicest restaurants, jacket and tie are not necessary - in fact, it would appear out of place. The style is casual but smart.

Provisioning
The villa is not provisioned unless specifically requested. There are 3 large stores on the island (AMC in Gustavia, Superette de l'aeroport, and Match, directly across from the airport) which offer a wonderful selection of meats, produce and other essentials.

Book your in-villa massage and spa services before you arrive on St. Barts. Be sure to arrange Ligne St Barth services with your reservation agent.

St. Barths Wine Consultancy
A wine provisions company for villas and yachts on St. Barths. Have your villa provisioned with fine wines for your arrival. Price includes delivery.

Television
For villas with Satellite or DIRECT TV here is a PDF document of available channels.

First Evening Supplies
WIMCO/Sibarth offers an arrival package of standard items (such as a roast chicken, ham and cheese, pastries, juices, fruits, etc. with/without alcohol) which will be placed in your villa prior to arrival. Orders should be placed in advance through WIMCO (see our Special Services and Activities Order Form). Clients who prefer to give us their own provisions list may do so in advance as well.

Catering Service
We are happy to arrange for a chef to prepare meals in your villa. Unless you require this service on the first night of your stay, we request that you make these arrangements while on the island, with Sibarth.

Babysitting
Please let SIBARTH know well in advance if you require this service as well as the days and hours necessary. Babysitting is difficult to arrange and nearly impossible to have on a full-time basis (cost is approximately $12 per hour). Please be sure to tell us if you need a crib or a high chair ($5 per day) for children.

Pets
Pets of any kind are not allowed in any of the villas without written permission from Sibarth. A pet or evidence of a pet will result in immediate eviction, and forfeiture of the guest’s entire rental fee.

Electricity/Voltage
The voltage on St. Barths is 220v, 60 cycles, not 110v as in the United States. If you intend to bring razors, hairdryers, chargers, etc., we suggest you bring plug adapters and a transformer to change from square to round pins. These are available on St. Barths although you may not want to spend your vacation in hardware stores! (Alma's Hardware does carry transformers and plug adapters.)

Linens
All villas include daily maid service, except Sundays and Holidays. All linens are provided in your rental home - sheets, towels, beach towels, etc. You may want to bring an extra beach towel with you. The maid will change your linens at least twice per week, and the towels every other day. For your personal laundry, there is a laundromat and dry cleaning service conveniently located in St. Jean.

Telephones
All villas have telephones and are able to receive international calls, and to make local and international calls through a call-back system. Should you need to make international calls or send faxes, you may do so via the Sibarth Office. Messages may also be sent to your attention c/o Sibarth: Fax: (011 590) 590 27 60 52 or Tel: (011 590) 590 29 88 90. An imprint of a credit card will be taken at check-in to cover any long distance calls.

Cell Phones
If you choose to bring your own cell phone with you, you can dial zero upon your arrival, and talk with a local operator who will take a credit card number from you, set up an account, and assign you a local number. OR, you can purchase a cell phone (approx. $70), and phone cards (various $ values) on the island at the gas station across from the St. Barth Airport. The average cost of a cell phone call to the US from St. Barth is approximately $1.40 per minute.

Faxes
Fax machines are available for rent if they are not already included in your villa rental. The most commonly rented ones are thermal ($12 per day) continuous paper faxes. Also available are the standard 8½ x 11 plain paper fax ($20 per day).

E-mail & Internet Access from your Villa
If you need internet or e-mail access from your villa while on St. Barths you will need to set up a dial-up connection to the local ISP. Sibarth can set up your laptop so you will be able to reach your regular web-based e-mail service (Hotmail or AOL, for example). Sibarth will help you to get the telephone and power adapters for your computer. There is a $50 charge per week for an internet connection. AOL users can configure their software for AOLGLOBALnet prior to leaving the U.S. Some villas on St. Barts have ASDL or DSL hook-ups. Often times the service is sketchy. WIMCO, SIBARTH and or the villa owner cannot be responsible for poor connections.

Credit Cards
Most establishments accept credit cards, but you may want to bring enough cash and/or travelers checks to last throughout your stay. There are three ATM machines on the island: two in Gustavia and one across from the airport, which will give you, French francs (EUROs as of January 1st 2002). The American Express representative will allow clients to buy American Express travelers checks with your AMEX card. You will need your passport or a piece of identification with your name and photo.
